Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands chairperson Bernard Singer was last week denied any easing of his bail condition in Port Augusta Magistrates Court.
Singer is awaiting trial for five charges, including an aggravated assault charge.
His counsel requested, via phonelink from Adelaide on Friday, that Mr Singer be allowed to live in the Indulkana community.
Magistrate Roseanne McInnes said it would not be appropriate for him to live in the community while the person he allegedly assaulted still lived there.
She said he was allowed to be in the community now for all purposes except "going home to sleep".
Singer's counsel said he would challenge the charge of aggravated assault, but had not been advised of whether Mr Singer would challenge the other charges, including taking alcohol into the APY Lands.
Singer's charges will be heard in Port Augusta later this month.
