Progress is at the top of the agenda for the Andamooka Progress and Opal Miners Association's new executive support officer Heather Hounslow.
Mrs Hounslow moved from Stansbury on the Yorke Peninsula last week to take on the newly formed role for APOMA.
She will run the APOMA office and will also assist the chair and the committee.
It's a new beginning for the former carer for the aged and the disabled, but a challenge that she is looking forward to.
"It's a vastly different lifestyle to what I've ever known," Mrs Hounslow said.
"I still have a lot to learn about Andamooka and mining."
Already Mrs Hounslow is "full of ideas", and hopes she can make a real difference to the town and the Andamooka community.
"I want to be able to help provide the things that people take for granted elsewhere - such as running water, roads and a permanent police presence," she said.
"I would like to see business generated here so that the children don't have to go away for work when they get older."
"I'm really looking forward to being part of the community."
