An Adelaide man was arrested on Friday night and charged for unlawful possession of money believed to be the profits of prostitution.
The man was carrying a large amount of cash, less than $1000, and was accompanied by two self-confessed prostitutes at the time of his arrest.
Police caught the man following a tip-off about the alleged practices at a local accommodation provider.
The tip-off suggested the trio had been in Roxby Downs for one night prior to police intervention.
Local detective Rod Ford said the two women involved were "known" for involvement in the prostitution industry both in South Australia and interstate.
He also said it was "not unusual" for such practices to occur in Roxby Downs.
"Any community where there is a predominance of males earning high wages is susceptible to these practices," Detective Ford said.
"Therefore one would expect the practice to continue on a ad hoc basis, there have been known incidences in the past."
Detective Ford said police were making every effort to ensure prostitution did not become prevalent in the town.
"Police are vigilant in the detection of this behaviour as health and other issues associated with illicit drugs and organised crime are inherently connected to prostitution rackets," he said.
"Where police become aware of the activities they are investigated."
The man has been bailed and will appear in court at a later date.
The two women have since left town.
