Respite worker discussed

16/07/2008 4:53:00 PM
Two child health workers came to Roxby Downs on Friday last week.

Jodie Hill from Port Augusta and Kerry Gummow from Clare took an opportunity to meet with the My Time parent peer support group.

They were here looking for better ways of delivering services to people with disabilities.

Part of that is to support Roxby Downs Health Service as they seek to appoint a respite worker here in Roxby Downs.

Jodie Hill is part of the Child Health Team.

She works as part of an outreach program funded through Miriam High Special Needs Centre.

She regularly visits Coober Pedy, Woomera and Andamooka.

Kerry Gummow comes from a nursing background, and works for Family Advocacy.

The new respite worker would initially be employed for 10 to 15 hours a week.

"Roxby Downs is no different from other places in Australia.

“We are identifying new families everyday …. there is increasing demand for disability support services,"Jodie said.

"We really hope we can get a respite worker in place as soon as possible."
