Young scientists from Adelaide University visited Roxby Downs last week.
They gave workshops and demonstrations in various aspects of scientific research at Woomera School on Tuesday, Roxby Downs Area School on Wednesday and Andamooka Area School on Thursday.
The scientists also did workshops at the Saint Barbara's Parish School on Friday and a community expo on Thursday night at the Leisure Centre auditorium.
Hannah Brown, a PHD student and member of the Australian Society for Medical Research hosted an evening of talks and hands on demonstrations.
"We have worked a touring program into our full time research and teaching roles …l ast year we toured into disadvantaged schools in the metropolitan area,” she said.
“This year we wanted to come to the far north."
Eight scientists toured with the group and gave up more than a week of their valuable time to prepare and deliver the program.
Kathryn Gebhardt is a cell biologist working on infertility research.
She demonstrated ways to extract DNA from samples.
She presented a talk called three scientists and a baby."
Mark Prodoehl is also a cell biologist who has been specialising in cell waste disposal mechanisms by studying something called storage lysozone.

Martin Sale is a neuroscientist who is studying the relationship between learning and the time of day.
According to Mr Sale we learn better at some times of the day rather than at others and brains work better at night.
Ashleigh Smith studies the effect of ageing on motor function.
She delivered a short lecture entitled, back in my day I used to walk 38 miles barefoot to school in the snow.
Olympic Dam Community Development Program spokesperson Carrie Clark was pleased with the turn out.
Participants were allow to look at Boris, a life sized model with organs attached.
They could have a hand at DNA extraction.
They were able to look at real human cells through a microscope.
There was DNA finger printing, ordinary finger printing and an interesting and revealing hand washing exercise.
