Association members grow in numbers

26/05/2008 10:17:00 AM

After some uncertainty about the combination of the two volleyball grades and what that would mean in terms of competition, this week proved both A and B-grade teams will need to keep their wits about them if they want to win.

Monday night saw all games finishing closely, with only one exception to this.

The association has also grown in the past few weeks with a number of new players joining the ranks, much to the delight of long-standing members.

Hornridge took on Los As Say Toon Us in one of the early games and came out on top, winning each of the four sets played.

Every set but one was close in terms of points and the final score ended up at 95 to 72.

George Jasniach of Los As Say Toon Us played a strong match and was awarded MVP by the umpire.

In the other early game, a bright-eyed Phoenix scored a century against a strong team of Tigers, who took the first set to warm up but who provided some heated competition for the remaining three sets.

The final score for the game was 100 to 72, with Rob Kraack of Phoenix contributing strongly enough to be named MVP.

Later on in the evening, Block Its pressured Los Tintos with some amazing and sometimes unbelievable moves from the front court players.

After struggling with their serving for the first quarter of the game, Los Tintos came back with the help of two new players who contributed strongly.

Adrian Harris of Los Tintos was named MVP for the game and final scores were three sets to one (101 to 77).

In the last game of the evening, Benders played Sina's and Soroush's Saints who unfortunately struggled against last season's premiers.

With a full contingent of experienced players, Benders won all four sets and finished the game with 107 points to their opposition's 47.

Rob Charman of Benders was given MVP for the match after he exhibited his usual spiking prowess.
