 Andamooka win hard fought battle

Andamooka win hard fought battle

10/06/2008 2:59:00 PM
This round saw Coober Pedy debut a new look, with new quite stylish gurneys and new socks.

But unfortunately it did not bring Coober Pedy any luck as they lost by a big margin from the inform Roxby Miners.

From the first bounce Roxby looked strong by kicking the first goal of the game in a matter of seconds and ended the quarter with a seven goal lead.

The second quarter was again Roxby's - kicking a bag of goals yet again and in Coober Pedy's defence they did kick a late goal in the quarter to get on the board going into the half time break.

But it was still down by a fair margin.

After the half time break Roxby still played the best it could, as it would any other game, showing the new Coober Pedy it wouldn't give up - and they didn't.

As the game went on Roxby seemed to slip further and further away from Coober Pedy as they went on to win the game by a big margin.

The rivalry between Olympic Dam and Andamooka continued this week.

After the last two times these two teams met, each team has won once.

The first quarter was a back and forth event until late in the quarter when Andamooka got first blood and kicked the opening goal.

The next goal also kept Olympic Dam scoreless at the end of the first quarter.

From what the coach said at quarter time it must have worked as Olympic Dam came out and kicked the first goal of the second quarter in a matter of seconds.

After that it was yet again a back and forth contest with each team kicking numerous goals.

At the half-time break Andamooka went in into the change rooms in front in a very low scoring game.

After the half time break things didn't change much as either team couldn't break away, with goals being hard to come by.

Andamooka were still leading Olympic Dam into the final break by 14 points.

Olympic Dam seemed to look like getting up and winning as they had a lot of the ball inside its 50m arch but couldn't capitalise on its opportunities at goal.

When the final siren went Andamooka won a hard fought battle, in a low scoring game.
