A group of local amateur baseballers have lived up to their team name, The Braves, being brave enough to have a go even if they may have had more courage than skill on the field.
The team, a group of mates, played at the 2008 Port Pirie Pura Light Start Masters Games earlier this month.
Roxby Downs does not have a baseball competition, and so the 10 players relied solely on their past sporting experience.
Only four of the players had played baseball before moving to Roxby Downs, so the others had to rely on skills gained from sports such as mixed softball, and even cricket.
Roxby local Geoff Haugum organised the group, which had to borrow uniforms for the Port Pirie competition.
He said while the team didn't fare very well against the more experienced competitors, The Braves had just been happy to give the game their best shot.
"We didn't go down with any expectations," Mr Haugum said.
"We just went down to have a great time and that's exactly what we did."
The Braves were Geoff Haugum, Simon Baiton, Glen Bassett, Travers Branch, Adrian Harris, Tony Jordon, Rusty Marks, John Maynard, James Prenzel and Kevin Thomas.
Their next goal is to travel to the Central Masters Games in October 2008.
